In 1997, Landscape Technologies was
asked to design a "front door" to Miner Park in Glen Carbon, Illinois. A
bandshell / gazebo was designed at the entrance to the park along with a
low sitting wall and paved areas for groups to gather. This structure
was also to be used as a bus shelter and a rest stop for the adjacent
bicycle trail.
The Miner Park band shell / gazebo is heavily used for such
things as weddings, high school prom pictures, concerts and
award ceremonies. Seasonal activities also occur here such as
the annual lighting of the town's Christmas lights on the day
after Thanksgiving.
The shelter is completely accessible and the surrounding
area feature landscape perennial/annual gardens and an information
kiosk. Located on Main Street through town, the entrance to Miner Park
has become a strong focal point in town today.
